Black slate fireplace stones are our best-selling product for gas, propane, or ethanol installations. Their matte semi-polished finish features medium to dark gray tones that work with contemporary, industrial, and traditional designs. This understated neutral palette adapts to different landscaping styles.

The natural density of these stones retains heat more efficiently than synthetic alternatives. The slightly lustrous surface captures the light from the flames without creating harsh reflections. Resistant up to 180,000 BTU, they are suitable for linear burners, fire bowls, and inserts.

For maintenance, remove the stones once or twice per season to rinse them with water. The non-porous composition prevents residue buildup and mold formation.

Q1: Can I mix different stone sizes? Yes! Combining multiple sizes creates visual depth. Larger stones form the base, medium ones fill the spaces, and smaller ones add texture on the surface.
Q2: What is the difference between matte semi-polished and highly polished? The matte semi-polished finish (this product) offers a soft luster that diffuses flame light. Highly polished creates a shiny mirror effect for a more formal look.
Q3: Does the gray color remain uniform over time? Yes. The natural mineral pigmentation runs throughout the stone rather than being applied on the surface. Repeated heat exposure does not affect the shade or finish.
Q4: Do these stones work with all types of burners? Yes, compatible with natural gas, propane, and ethanol. Avoid completely blocking burner ports to maintain even combustion and a visible flame.
